Treason, especially the betrayal of secrets of the Federal Republic of Germany, is prosecuted by the Espionage department of the Office of the Federal Prosecutor. Constant technological developments are presenting ever new challenges for the investigation and law enforcement authorities.

The Federal Republic of Germany has made an international commitment to preventing the further spread of weapons of mass destruction. Any export of weapons or of components that can be used for military applications must therefore be individually approved by the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control. The Office of the Federal Prosecutor prosecutes serious violations of these export provisions.
