About us

Around 300 people are employed at the Office of the Federal Prosecutor in Karlsruhe and Leipzig. The Federal Public Prosecutor General is a political civil servant who is proposed by the Federal Minister of Justice and appointed by the Federal President (Bundespräsident) with the agreement of the Bundesrat (Federal Council). Jens Rommel has been the Public Prosecutor General of the Federal Court of Justice since March 2024.

In total, the Office of the Federal Prosecutor employs around 110 federal prosecutors, senior prosecutors and prosecutors in house. They are supported by around 50 prosecutors and by judges from the federal states. These research assistants are usually delegated for three years.

The prosecutors’ work is supported by a total of around 140 law officers, as well as staff at the administration, the office, the car pool and the security service. These undertake largely organisational tasks in the day-to-day processes of the Office of the Federal Prosecutor.
