Upholding the rule of law in the Federal Republic of Germany takes commitment and trust.

In our daily work, we defend the liberal democratic basic order established in our constitution. Any attack on our pluralistic social order is prosecuted resolutely and brought to court by the Office of the Federal Prosecutor. To this end, we work together with other law enforcement agencies, including across national borders.

As Federal Public Prosecutor General, I am guided in all my actions by justice and the law. The independent rule of law is a cornerstone of our liberal democratic order. It must therefore not be called into question by anyone.

A further principle of the rule of law is that every accused person has the right to have judgments concerning them reviewed for errors of law. The Office of the Federal Prosecutor therefore assists in clarifying individual and general legal issues at the highest appellate instance before the Federal Court of Justice.

Throughout the duties we perform, our task is to strengthen citizens’ trust in justice and the law.
