Indictment Filed on Suspicion of Engaging in Intelligence Activities
On 14 November 2024, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against
Turkish national Mehmet K.
before the State Security Chamber of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court.
There are sufficient grounds to suspect the accused of engaging in intelligence activities (section 99 para. 1 no. 1 of the German Criminal Code [StGB]).
In essence, the indictment sets out the following allegations:
Between September 2018 and August 2021, Mehmet K. repeatedly reached out to the Turkish intelligence service, by sending letters via the Turkish police. In those letters, he shared contact and other information about individuals from his community in the Düren area (North Rhine-Westphalia), who he believed to adhere to the movement of the Islamic preacher Gülen.
Mehmet K. is not in custody.
