Indictment Filed Against a Suspected Member of the Foreign Terrorist Organisation ‘Islamic State’
On 26 November 2024, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment against
Iraqi national Abdul Ghani A. N.
before the State Security Chamber of the Munich Higher Regional Court.
There are sufficient grounds to suspect the accused of membership in a foreign terrorist organisation (section 129a para. 1 no. 1 of the German Criminal Code [StGB], section 129b para. 1 sentences 1 and 2 StGB, sections 1, 3, 105 of the German Juvenile Courts Act [StGB]) as a minor and as a young adult.
In essence, the indictment sets out the following allegations:
In November 2014, Abdul Ghani A. N. joined the foreign terrorist organisation ‘Islamic State’ in Iraq as a member. He was part of various units of the organisation and served as an active combatant until November 2016. He subsequently worked for the intelligence service of the ‘Islamic State’ until July 2017.
On 24 July 2024, the accused was arrested (see Press Release No. 40 of 24 July 2024) and has since been in pre-trial detention.
